US IB Theory of Knowledge: Core Theme

Knowledge and the Knower

This core theme provides an opportunity for students to reflect on themselves as knowers and thinkers,
and on the different communities of knowers to which we belong.

Six Significant Questions

Six Significant Questions provide a framework to this new direction for ToK.

  1. How do I become a knower about the world?
  2. How does my knowledge about the world determine my values?
  3. How is my understanding of the world influenced by the way knowledge is communicated?
  4. How do my perspectives and biases shape the way I view the world?
  5. How do I create new knowledge about the world?
  6. How do I become a discerning knower about the world?
